TwinERGY: Citizenship at the heart of the energy market and the optimization of consumption

Area

Communication and dissemination

Client

Project funded by the European Union

Year

2020 - 2024

Impact

Making the most of energy consumption is possible thanks to flexibility and collaboration.

How can citizens reduce our energy cost and impact through the incorporation of technological and social innovations?

What would you say if we proposed to you a method to reduce your energy bill? To tackle climate change by allowing better use and control of energy? To be aware of and act on your energy consumption? This is not a mere illusion, but a reality made possible through the TwinERGY project.

The aim of this project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, has been to test how digital twin technology can contribute to a more active participation of energy consumers and help them become prosumers. To achieve this, a set of innovative tools was developed to predict the consumption patterns of citizens and their comfort preferences, analysing the flexibility potential that individuals, buildings, and communities can bring to the electrical grid, thereby maximizing their added value.

Action was taken in four pilot locations: Bristol (United Kingdom), Benetutti (Italy), Steinheim (Germany), and Athens (Greece). Each demonstration stood out by offering emerging technologies such as contracts, plugs, and intelligent, personalised demand response programmes that participants used and installed in their homes.

From Ideas for Change, we contributed to communicating and disseminating the project at the European level in the most effective, coherent, and collaborative manner possible through the use of digital platforms, social networks, and the press. Additionally, a specific visual identity and a series of video documentaries were produced, serving as a testimony to the project and the actions carried out in each pilot.
