Make the citizen role visible in the design of public policies with adoption potential, adapted to needs, habits, and language.

How does the food commercial offer condition diets in three neighbourhoods of the same city?

FoodMapping is a pilot project of citizen science for the collaborative mapping of food environments and habits. The aim of the project is to find relationships between the food available in different neighbourhoods, eating habits, and the decisions made by the residents of those neighbourhoods when shopping.

It was implemented for the first time in three neighbourhoods in the metropolitan area of Barcelona (Fondo, Sant Ildefons, and Vila de Gràcia), where participants visited local shops to buy the ingredients to make a lentil stew. Data on the routes they take, the shops they buy from, and the characteristics of the products they find are collected through the FoodMapping mobile app. Once the food has been bought, the lentil stew is cooked, and a community meal is held. During the meal, participants have the opportunity to discuss the food issues that concern them the most, their perception of the environment, and their eating habits.
